Emma Aldersea

Emma is a passionate advocate who specialises in Criminal, Traffic, Regulatory and Disciplinary matters. Emma has extensive experience acting for clients in complex and high-profile legal matters in a range of courts, tribunals and commissions across Australia. 

Emma is focused on providing holistic, client-focused legal services. Emma is committed to breaking down silos that exist in the legal system and ensure that a client has their legal needs met in a way that takes into account their future interests.

Emma’s experience in both criminal and migration has allowed her to understand the impacts that criminal matters can have on non-citizens who are at risk of a visa cancellation and facing the possibility of separation from their families. This intersection in Emma’s practice allows her to provide advice and prepare criminal matters in a way that best protects a client’s future immigration status.  

Emma’s unique skillset allows her to individually tailor services to ensure that a client can understand complex legal processes and make informed decisions regarding their pathway out of the legal system

Karl Brandon

Consultant

Karl has almost 20 years experience in criminal law including 8 years as a barrister at the Victorian Bar. Karl completed his law degree at the University of Melbourne in 1996 and was admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1997.

After 5 years working as a Senior Taxation Consultant for Ernst & Young he became an Associate to his Honour Judge Joe Gallaci and held that position for nearly two years before completing the Bar Readers Course and signing the Bar Roll.

During his time as a barrister Karl represented hundreds of client in matters in the Magistrates, County and Supreme Court, gaining experience with a range of serious and complex matters including drug trafficking, money laundering, fraud, confiscation proceedings, intentionally cause serious injury and sexual offences. He has represented clients both in jury trials and sentencing hearings.    

 In 2010 Karl relocated to the Gold Coast for a sea change and has not looked back. He immediately opened his own firm on the Gold Coast and has practised in criminal and employment law. In 2016 Karl joined the criminal and regulatory practice of Slater & Gordon and in 2017 was appointed National Practice Group Leader, in charge of a number of lawyers and staff across Australia.  In the past 10 years Karl has represented clients in Queensland in the Magistrates, District and Supreme Court and continues to be a fearless advocate for clients in the justice system.

Karl has now joined Laneway Legal as a Consultant and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with him.
